The Collierville Middle School baseball team took advantage of a few Brighton Cardinal miscues in the first inning that helped the Dragons to five runs to open the sectional championship, Thursday (May 13), at USA Stadium. Hayden Short was brilliant on the mound for three innings to earn the win and Brody Winemiller closed out the final four innings to pick up the save in the 6-3 final. Short also had an inside-the-park home run to propel the Dragons offense.

With the win, CMS will advance to the first ever TMSAA Baseball State Championships. They will play Greenbrier in the semifinals on Friday (May 21), 7:30pm, at Beech High School in Hendersonville.

The championship and 3rd place game will be played, Saturday (May 22), at Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville.
